On Tuesday, August 6, the DRCA once again sponsored a celebration of National Night Out, an event aimed at promoting community involvement in public safety and crime prevention. Thanks to DRCA board member Jay Nestlerode for taking the lead in organizing the event and for the many volunteers who helped make it a success.
Jay reports that the Alexandria Police Department brought its mobile crime lab to the event, and the U.S. Marshals Service had an armored truck on display. The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office had staff in attendance. Alexandria Fire Department members helped cook the food, and staff at Your Dog’s Best Friends helped serve the food. 7 Eleven provided hotdogs and buns, and realtor Jen Walker provided a popcorn-maker.
The Del Ray Business Association provided goodie bags with coupons to local shops and restaurants. Local band Victory Red provided musical entertainment. Alexandria City Council Members John Chapman, Del Pepper, Paul Smedberg and Justin Wilson attended, as did State Sen. Adam Ebbin and State Delegate Rob Krupicka. Jay said he appreciates the many volunteers who helped out before, during and after the event.
