  • Sheriff’s Office Quarterly Report – Lt. Monique Rea, Alexandria Sheriff’s Office
    • Jail capacity: 450 max
      • 130 out of 150 spaces of Federal contract occupied (4th floor)
      • Pretty notorious criminals are being held here
      • Fewer low-risk prisoners held means fewer available for community service (currently 2 total)
  • Pedestrian Safety Issues – Hillary Poole, Complete Streets Program Manager, City of Alexandria, Department of Transportation and Environmental Services
    • Response to pedestrian death:
      • Added LPI ( Leading Pedestrian Interval) signal to provide pedestrians with a walk signal before traffic has green signal to proceed.

    • 1.5 million sq ft, large amount of space that needed to be developed in a coordinated manner
    • Special tax district considered (proximity to Potomac Yard Metro)
    • Possible senior living facility in addition to hotel
    • All the buildings will come down when approvals are set
    • Architects are revisiting original designs based on initial community feedback
