Agenda:
7:00 p.m.: Business meeting begins promptly
7:05 p.m.: Crime and traffic report by Captain Dennis Andreas
- Crime is slightly up including a couple of larcenies from cars, shoplifting, burglary case on E. Luray linked to other cases in the city
- 22 traffic stops, focusing on DUI enforcement
- SoberRide.com for a free ride home
7:15 p.m.: Sheriff’s office report by Daniel Gordon
- Recently attended CALEA (Committee and accreditation of law enforcement agencies) conference in St. Louis.
- Operation Elf open right now. Donations are being accepted for families of jail “residents”.
- The Sheriff’s office is handing out Meals on Wheels on December 22 for Alexandria Senior Services.
- Home checks are available during the holidays. There is an online form linked here
- The 2023 Alexandria Sheriff’s community class is available in March.
7:30 p.m: Senior Services of Alexandria (linked here) with Mary Lee Anderson
- Executive director of Senior Services of Alexandria
- Local resource for those 60+
- Manage Meals on Wheels serves
- o Serves about 125 clients in the city.
o A homebound adult can be evaluated to see if they quality.
o If not, $25 a day for two meals a day. All volunteers use a mobile app to stay in touch.
o Grocery delivery program delivering groceries every 2 weeks. Volunteers call and take orders over the phone and help them unpack and put the groceries away.
- Friendly visitor program
o Volunteer program where people visit with those who are homebound or in retirement communities. Some volunteers visit with their children.
- Ani-meals program
o Donates free pet food to seniors.
o Last year they received a grant from Petco to received funds for vet care.
- Speaker series
o There are a variety of topics
- Senior ambassador program
o Individuals who volunteer to share community events.
- Senior information corners around the city sharing informational brochures
- Handle reservations for the disability transit system. You can register with the city’s office of transportation with proof that their disability qualifies them for this. It is a shared bus service. $6 each way to DC or Fairfax and there is not limit on usage.
- Silver Service Card
o Discount card for area businesses. Available for any resident 60+ in the city and there is a list of 40 different businesses who accept the card.
7:50 p.m.: Announcements
- The DRCA holiday decorated house contest submissions are complete and up for votes. Check out the website linked here to find a map of the submissions and submit your vote.
- The DRCA chili cook-off is February 25, 2023, from 6-8pm. We will have a band, beer, kids, and even dog-friendly chili. All proceeds will go to a charity that is to be determined.

o The holiday arts sale ends this weekend (website linked here).
o Next month the monthly holiday shows begin again. The show for January will be “Putting a Face to a Name”
